West Indies faced a series of defeats in the T20Is against the Kiwis and will be eager to make a comeback in the 1st ODI against visitors New Zealand after winning the 3rd T20I. After New Zealand won the first two T20Is with complete dominance and won the series, the hosts West Indies made a comeback in the last T20I as they dominated Kiwis throughout to avoid a clean sweep, courtesy of Brandon King. 

The hosts have been in a slump regarding their form in the 50-over format. West Indies lost to India 0-3 in July 2022 and were also clean swept by Bangladesh in a 3-match ODI series earlier. Shai Hope has registered the most runs for West Indies this year with 616 runs to his name in 18 innings, followed by Shamarh Brooks with 613 runs in the same number of matches. 

In the bowling department, Akeal Hosein has picked up the most wickets with 25 wickets in 17 matches. Alzarri Joseph has registered 22 wickets in 14 matches and only these two bowlers have managed to reach double figures.

New Zealand on the other hand have been in brilliant form in ODIs this year. The Kiwis won the off-off ODI against Scotland last month, and clean swept Ireland 3-0 prior to that. New Zealand clean swept Netherlands 3-0 as well in April this year.
