As the English top order folded in the first innings, Jonny Bairstow stepped up yet again in the 3rd test between England & New Zealand and scored a magnificent ton to take his team out of trouble and even in a commanding position. English pacer Stuart Broad, untouched by age, played an entertaining knock with the bat which actually put England in the lead.
After being at 55 for 6 wickets at one point in reply to New Zealand's 329/10 in the first innings, England were looking in trouble. However, Bairstow, not only saved face, but even managed to put the Kiwis on backfoot with his knock of 162 runs off just 157 balls with 24 fours.
Broad, batting at #9 for England, came out to bat when England were at 296/7, having just lost debutant all-rounder Jamie Overton for 97 runs. In the first 7 deliveries Broad faced, he didn't score a run. However, the bowler shifted gears and smacked 42 runs off next 28 balls. Broad smacked 6 fours & 2 sixes, entertaining the crowd as well as putting his team ahead.
