As the English top order folded in the first innings, Jonny Bairstow stepped up yet again in the 3rd test between England & New Zealand and scored a magnificent ton to take his team out of trouble and even in a commanding position. English pacer Stuart Broad, untouched by age, played an entertaining knock with the bat which actually put England in the lead.

After being at 55 for 6 wickets at one point in reply to New Zealand's 329/10 in the first innings, England were looking in trouble. However, Bairstow, not only saved face, but even managed to put the Kiwis on backfoot with his knock of 162 runs off just 157 balls with 24 fours.

Broad, batting at #9 for England, came out to bat when England were at 296/7, having just lost debutant all-rounder Jamie Overton for 97 runs. In the first 7 deliveries Broad faced, he didn't score a run. However, the bowler shifted gears and smacked 42 runs off next 28 balls. Broad smacked 6 fours & 2 sixes, entertaining the crowd as well as putting his team ahead.

Amidst this, Broad took on ace New Zealand pacer Trent Boult and smacked him for a huge six. In the 60th over, Boult bowled a length delivery at the stumps on the fourth delivery. Stuart Broad backed away, pulled it with full power, dispatching it high & over square leg. The ball went straight in between the fielders in the deep and over the rope for a six.

It is noteworthy that Trent Boult dismissed the English top three - Alex Lees (4), Zak Crawley (6) and Ollie Pope (5) early on in the innings, and yet was smashed by Broad in a tremendous performance.

While talking about the match, after New Zealand opted to bat first in the third test against England, Daryl Mitchel's 109 and Tom Blundell's 55 took New Zealand to 329/10 in the first innings.
