WATCH: Shubman Gill Takes An Exceptional Catch Running Backwards; Reminds Of Kapil Dev's Epic 1983 WC Catch

IPL 2022 GT vs LSG: A bird? A plane? Superman? No! It was Shubman Gill, who went airborne to dismiss Evin Lewis in the first match between the two new franchises - Gujarat Titans & Lucknow Super Giants.

IPL 2022 GT vs LSG: In the ongoing match between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, LSG are off to a disastrous start after Shami took a wicket each in the 3 overs he bowled in the powerplay. However, Varun Aaron making his comeback also managed a wicket in the powerplay, but the wicket truly belonged to Shubman Gill for his marvellous catch. 

On the 3rd ball of the 4th over being bowled by Varun, Evin Lewis rocked back to pull a short length delivery pitched outside off. Shubman Gill then pulled off a fielding marvel which reminded everyone of the epic catch by Kapil Dev in the 1983 World Cup Finals to dismiss Sir Vivian Richard. 

Gill ran back from mid-wicket, kept his eye on the balls and took it over his shoulders. The 22-year old dived while running back and dived to take the catch with his two hands, making it look extremely easy. Evin Lewis, who came out to bat at # for LSG, was dismissed after scoring 10 runs off 9 balls with 2 fours.

While talking about the match, Gujarat Titans' captain Hardik Pandya won the toss & opted to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants. GT pacer Shami proved this decision right as he picked up 3 wickets in 3 overs inside the powerplay. While writing this piece, LSG are at 36/4 in 8 overs with Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni are at the crease.
