ENG vs NZ 1st Test: After Kane Williamson tested positive for Covid, Tom Latham was handed the responsibility to lead team New Zealand in the second test against England. After being put in to bat first and providing a steady start, both openers for dismissed in successive deliveries. Young Matty Potts caught a blinder at mid-wicket to provide the second wicket and dismiss skipper Latham.
Along with Will Young, Tom Latham played off English bowlers cautiously for around two hours, etching an opening partnership of 84 runs.
However, English skipper Ben Stokes came on to bowl the 21st over, and on the last delivery of the over, provided the opening breakthrough. Stokes bowled the delivery on a length outside off and shaped away from the batter as Young was squared up in defence. The ball took the bat's edge, and Crawley did well enough to scoop up a catch in the second slip. Young was dismissed after scoring 47 runs including 9 fours.
