Joe Root is a classical test batter. He has the perfect technique and judges the ball quickly and acts smartly to play it. This is one of the reasons why he's considered in the 'Fab 4' and why Root has been so consistent in the last year or so.

Root scored the most runs in 2021, batting in different conditions against different well-rounded challenging attacks. It is fair to say that England's men's test batting lineup is wholly dependent on Joe Root currently.

In the first test match between West Indies vs England, the visitors once again had a disastrous start as they lost both openers - Alex Lees and Zak Crawley - within four overs.

Joe Root once again had to come early when West Indies bowlers were swinging and seaming the red Dukes ball. Root couldn't afford to get out but had to score runs as well.

He edged one towards the gully region for a four off Kemar Roach in the eighth over. Roach - an experienced campaigner who uses the angles well while bowling - bowled an angled-in delivery on the back of the length. Root judged the length and decided to leave.

However, the ball slightly seamed in and hit the top of the off-stump and Joe Root departed. In his whole test career, Joe Root had never got out shouldering his arms. He has played 115 test matches, 211 innings.
