UP-w vs GG-w: Match Preview:

Trending

UP Warriorz will be playing their first match of WPL 2023, and have an interesting roster to play from. Led by ace Australian and explosive keeper-batter Alyssa Healy, the team has plenty of hitting power in Kiran Navgire, Devika Vaidya, Tahlia McGrath and Deepti Sharma. Parshavi Chopra, who was also the leading run scorer in the recently concluded U19 Women's T20 World Cup, is also amongst the ranks in UP Warriorz.

The bowling unit is equally, if not more formidable, in comparison to the batting unit. Apart from the #1 ranked T20I bowler, Sophie Ecclestone, UP Warriorz have ace South African pacer Shabnim Ismail in their team as well. Medium pacers Grace Harris and Lauren Bell will further strengthen the bowling unit along with Anjali Sarvani and Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

Gujarat Giants on the other hand had a forgetful start to the WPL 2023 as they were thrashed by 143 runs in their first match, beaten comprehensively in all departments. Chasing a massive 208 runs to win, Gujarat lost 4 wickets in addition to Beth Mooney's retired out inside the powerplay and were eventually bowled out for 64 runs in 15.1 overs. Only one batter, Dayalan Hemalatha (29) was able to breach the double-digit mark.

Bowlers also had a forgetful day as only one out of seven bowlers used had an economy of less than 7 (Tanuja Kanwar 2-0-12-1). Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham picked up a wicket each while Indian spinner Sneh Rana was the top wicket-taker with 2 scalps to her name, conceding 43 runs in 4 overs.
