After a 10-wicket defeat in the 1st ODI, Zimbabwe bowlers put up a fight against Indian batters in the 2nd ODI. However, with such a low score to chase, team India managed to score 167/5 in 25.4 overs and win the match by 5 wickets in the 2nd ODI, and build an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series with the last ODI to be played on Monday (August 22nd).
Chasing 162, India got off to a jittery start as Indian captain KL Rahul, who came out to open with Shikhar Dhawan, fell in the 2nd over after scoring just 1 run in 5 balls. Shikhar (33) was next to be dismissed as he was sent back to the pavilion in the 7th over by Tanaka Chivanga.
Ishan Kishan (6) was dismissed in the 12th over while Shubman Gill was caught out in the 14th over. However, despite the regular wickets, India maintained a run rate of above 6 and with a 56 run partnership between Deepak Hooda (25) and Sanju Samson (43*) for the 5th wicket, India inched to victory with 24.2 overs remaining.
