Team India Beat Zimbabwe By 5 Wickets In 2nd ODI; Attain Unassailable Lead In 3-Match Series

India are now 2-0 ahead in the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe where the last ODI will be played on Monday (August 22nd).

After a 10-wicket defeat in the 1st ODI, Zimbabwe bowlers put up a fight against Indian batters in the 2nd ODI. However, with such a low score to chase, team India managed to score 167/5 in 25.4 overs and win the match by 5 wickets in the 2nd ODI, and build an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series with the last ODI to be played on Monday (August 22nd).

Chasing 162, India got off to a jittery start as Indian captain KL Rahul, who came out to open with Shikhar Dhawan, fell in the 2nd over after scoring just 1 run in 5 balls. Shikhar (33) was next to be dismissed as he was sent back to the pavilion in the 7th over by Tanaka Chivanga.

Ishan Kishan (6) was dismissed in the 12th over while Shubman Gill was caught out in the 14th over. However, despite the regular wickets, India maintained a run rate of above 6 and with a 56 run partnership between Deepak Hooda (25) and Sanju Samson (43*) for the 5th wicket, India inched to victory with 24.2 overs remaining. 

For Zimbabwe, Luke Jongwe grabbed two wickets in the form of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. While Tanaka Chivanga, Victor Nyauchi and Sikandar Raza grabbed 1 wicket each. 

In the first innings, In yet another overpowering bowling performance against Zimbabwe, Indian bowlers breathe fire in the 2nd ODI as they bowled out the hosts for 161/10 in 38.1 overs. 

Shardul Thakur, who came in as a replacement for Deepak Chahar - the player of the match in the 1st ODI, picked up 3 wickets in the form of Innocent Kaia (16), Regis Chakabva (2) and Luke Jongwe (6). 

All the Indian bowlers used - Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Deepak Hooda, grabbed 1 wicket each. 

For Zimbabwe, Sean Williams was the top scorer with 42 runs while Ryan Burl contributed with an unbeaten 39 runs off 47 balls in the end.

Earlier, India captain KL Rahul won the toss & opted to bowl first against Zimbabwe in the 2nd ODI. This match was played at Harare Sports Club, Harare.
