In the first ODI, Rassie van der Dussen was the top batter for the hosts as he scored 111 runs in 6 fours & a six. David Miller contributed with 53 runs while Quinton de Kock (37), Temba Bavuma (36) and Heinrich Klaasen (30) failed to convert their starts into big scores. Aiden Markram underperformed with only 13 runs off 19 balls.
The bowling won the match for the hosts as the pace department tore through the English batting lineup. Anrich Nortje was the top wicket-taker with 4 wickets to his name while Sisanda Magala made a good comeback to the national side with 3 important wickets to his name.
