A disciplined death overs bowling by Royal Challengers Bangalore defend a 174-run target against Chennai Super Kings by 13 runs in match 49 of the IPL 2022 played at Pune's MCA Stadium. 

CSK began the chase brilliantly as they scored 51 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the first one to fall as he got caught in the deep trying to smack Shahbaz Ahmed for a six in the seventh over. In the next over, Glenn Maxwell removed Robin Uthappa for one. Maxwell's second over brought another wicket as Ambati Rayudu got bowled.

Moeen Ali and Devon Conway added 34 runs in 27 balls for the fourth wicket to stabilise the inning. Conway scored his second fifty of the season but soon got out trying to slog-sweep Wanindu Hasaranga for a six. 

Conway's wicket triggered a batting collapse CSK lost Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, MS Dhoni, and Dwaine Pretorious one over each till the 20th over. 

Harshal Patel ended up with three wickets in his four overs, Glenn Maxwell with two while Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, and Shahbaz with a wicket each as Chennai fell short by 13 runs of the 174-run target. 

Earlier, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli gave a terrific start to Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were asked to bat first. RCB scored 57 runs inside the powerplay. Du Plessis got out in the eighth over and the scoring rate went down drastically. Maxwell got run out for three while Virat Kohli made a struggling 30 off 33 balls. 

It was Mahipal Lomror, Rajat Patidar, and Dinesh Karthik who saved RCB from once again collapsing to a below-par total. Lomror smacked 42 off 27 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes, Patidar made 21 off 15, while Karthik finished the inning with his 26 runs in 17 balls. 

Maheesh Theekshana picked three wickets, all in one over, while Moeen Ali got two and Dwaine Pretorious picked one wicket for CSK to restrict RCB to 173/8.
