Powell Powers West Indies To A Thumping 3 Wicket Win Against South Africa In Rain Affected 1st T20I

SA vs WI, 1st T20I: In the rain-affected 1st T20I, visitors West Indies cruised to a 3-wicket win against South Africa after the match was reduced to 11 overs per side. Captain Rovman Powell was the star for his team as he took West Indies to a victory in the opening T20I of the 3-match series. 

Chasing a target of 132 runs off 11 overs, Windies lost opener Kyle Mayers (6) in the very first over. However, Brandon King and Johnson Charles played explosive cameos. King smacked 23 runs off just 8 balls while Charles scored 28 runs off 14 balls while batting at #3. Nicholas Pooran managed just 16 runs off 7 balls as West Indies were reduced to 66/3. 

But captain Rovman Powell took charge, smacking an unbeaten 43 runs off just 18 balls with a four & 5 sixes, taking the visitors across the target with 3 balls and 3 wickets remaining. For South Africa, Sisanda Magala picked up 3 wickets for 21 runs in his 2 overs, while Bjorn Fortuin, Tabraiz Shamsi and Anrich Nortje managed 1 wicket each.

In the first innings, David Miller played an explosive knock of 48 runs off 22 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes, taking South Africa to a good total of 131 runs in just 11 overs. While Quinton de Kock was dismissed for a golden duck on the first ball of the match by Akeal Hosein, Reeza Hendricks contributed with 21 runs off 12 balls. 

Batting down the order, Sisanda Magala also contributed with an unbeaten 18 runs off 5 balls with a four and 2 sixes. For West Indies, Sheldon Cottrell and Odean Smith grabbed 2 wickets each while Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd managed 1 wicket each. 

Earlier, West Indies captain Rovman Powell won the toss & opted to bowl first against South Africa in the 1st T20I. This match was played at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
