Rayudu's 78 In Vain As Punjab Kings Seal A 11-Run Win

Death bowling masterclass from Punjab Kings' bowlers helped them defeat Chennai Super Kings by 11 runs in match 38 of the IPL 2022 played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. 

Chasing a target of 188, CSK lost three wickets inside seven overs at a score of 40 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu added 49 runs in 33 balls for the fourth wicket to keep Chennai in the run chase.

Gaikwad scored 30 in 27 balls and got out in the 13th over with still 99 runs to chase. Rayudu began the assault on Punjab bowlers as he added 64 runs in 32 balls with Ravindra Jadeja for the fifth wicket. 

Rayudu did the hard work and the attacking role, smashing 78 runs in just 39 balls with the help of seven fours and six sixes. Kagiso Rabada got a tired Rayudu out in the 18th over. 

Despite MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja's presence at the crease, CSK couldn't chase down the target and lost the match by 11 runs. Arshdeep Singh, Rabada, and Rishi Dhawan only conceded 35 runs in the final four overs and picked two crucial wickets of Rayudu and Dhoni. 

Earlier, milestone man Shikhar Dhawan put on a show along with Bhanuka Rajapaksa to get Punjab Kings to 187/4. 

Dhawan smacked an unbeaten 88 in 59 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes. During the knock, the left-handed opener also completed his 6000 IPL runs. Dhawan added 110 runs in 71 balls with Rajapaksa for the second wicket. The Sri Lankan scored 42 in 32 balls including two fours and as many sixes. 

Liam Livingstone gave the perfect finish, smacking 19 in seven balls to get PBKS close to the 190-run mark.
