RR vs LSG IPL 2022: In the 20th match of IPL 2022 between Rajasthan Royals & Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals suffered a batting collapse after which Ashwin had to come out to bat in the 10th over, at a score of 67. 

Ashwin went on to score 28 runs in 23 balls, smacking 2 sixes against off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham, who was the joint highest wicket-taker for Lucknow Super Giants in this match. The all-rounder, who was acquired for 5 crores INR in the IPL 2022 mega auction, etched a partnership of 68 runs off 51 balls with Shimron Hetmyer for the 5th wicket.

However, after the 2nd delivery of the 18th over, off which Ashwin took a single against Avesh Khan, Ashwin was seen going back to the pavilion without being dismissed. It was further cleared that Ashwin was in fact, retiring. 

This happened for the first time in IPL history when a batter was retired out. Riyan Parag replaced the off-spinner and smacked a six to score 8 runs in 4 balls before getting caught out on the 5th delivery of the 20th over by Jason Holder.

While talking about the match, Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul won the toss & opted to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals in the 20th match of IPL 2022. With the help of Shimron Hetmyer's unbeaten thunderous fifty, RR managed to post 165/6 in 20 overs. Hetmyer smacked 59 runs off 36 balls with a four & 6 sixes. For LSG, Krishnappa Gowtham & Jason Holder picked up 2 wickets each while Avesh Khan picked up a wicket. This match is being played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
