Punjab Kings again missed out on playoffs, finishing 6th on the points table in IPL 2022. Punjab managed 7 wins in 14 games last season. Captain Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the batting unit while Australian all-rounder Matthew Short's inclusion is an exciting prospect. Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma will head the middle order along with Liam Livingstone (will not play the 1st game). Shahrukh Khan and Sam Curran would be expected to play the finisher role for Punjab Kings.

Kolkata Knight Riders on the other hand have lost their captain Shreyas Iyer for the full season due to an injury. Nitish Rana will be leading the side in his stead. The batting will be opened by Venkatesh Iyer and explosive Afghan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Mandeep Singh, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh will comprise the middle order with ace all-rounders Andre Russell and Sunil Narine playing the finishers. 

The bowling attack looks formidable with ace Kiwi pacer Tim Southee and Indian pacer Umesh Yadav leading the fast bowling attack, along with Shardul Thakur and Andre Russell. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine will be heading the spin department for KKR.
