Nat Sciver, Heather Knight Take England To 7-Wicket Win Against West Indies In Women's T20 World Cup

Natalie Sciver and Heather Knight etched an unbroken partnership of 67 runs to take England to victory against West Indies in Women's T20 World Cup.

WIW vs ENGW: England followed their good bowling performance with an even better batting performance, winning their group match against West Indies in the Women's T20 World Cup. Natalie Sciver was the top scorer while opener Sophia Dunkley and captain Heather Knight made useful contributions. 

Chasing a target of 136, England got off to a flying start courtesy of opener Sophia Dunkley. While her opening partner and ace batter Danielle Wyatt was dismissed for just 11 runs, Dunkley smacked 34 runs in 18 balls with 4 fours & a six to get England off to a good start. 

After Dunkley's dismissal in the 6th over, Natalie Sciver got in the middle and paced the England run chase. While Alice Capsey (13) was dismissed cheaply, captain heather Knight held the mantle. While Natalie remained unbeaten on 40 runs, Knight remained not out on 32 runs in 22 balls, as England chased down the target with 33 deliveries remaining.  

For West Indies, Chinelle Henry picked up 2 wickets while Afy Fletcher managed 1 wicket. In the first innings, Hayley Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle played useful knocks against a potent England bowling attack, taking West Indies to 135/7 in 20 overs. 

After Hayley Matthews ad Stafanie Taylor opened the innings for West Indies, Matthew took charge as West Indies posted 47 runs in the powerplay. However, Taylor contributed with just 3 runs off 15 balls and was dismissed in the 7th over. 

Matthews scored 42 runs off 32 balls (4x8) before she was dismissed in the 11th over. Shemaine Campbell scored 34 runs while batting at #3. However, the rest of the Windies' batters failed to score big and cross the 20-run mark.

For England, Sophie Ecclestone was the top bowler with 3 wickets to her name. Katherine Sciver-Brunt and Sarah Glenn managed 1 wicket each.

Earlier, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews won the toss & opted to bat first against England women in the 2nd match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2023. This match was played at Boland Park, Paarl.
