5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 9th match of the IPL 2022, at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. The head-to-head count between these two stands too close to determine a dominating side.

Mumbai Indians are known to get off to bad start each season and IPL 2022 was no different, as MI lost their first by 4 wickets against Delhi Capitals. However, there were a few positives from the batting group after being put in to bat first. Explosive batter Ishan Kishan smacked 81 runs off 48 balls while Rohit anchored well with 41 off 32 balls. The return of Suryakumar Yadav will strengthen the batting unit and a better performance can be expected. 

MI's premium and lead bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, who was retained for 12 crores INR, looked completely off-colour, giving away 43 runs in 3.2 overs without a wicket. Daniel Sams also gave away 57 runs in 4 overs without a wicket. However, Basil Thampi picked 3 wickets while Murugan Ashwin performed decently with his two scalps and that's a positive for MI in the bowling department.

Rajasthan Royals registered the biggest win in the opening round of the matches in IPL 2022 as they thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 61 runs. RR batters displayed firepower as they posted 210/6 after being put in to bat first. Skipper Samson was the top scorer with 55 runs while Devdutt Padikkal also smacked 41 runs, accompanied by Buttler (35) & Hetmyer's 32 off 13 at the end. The Royals' batting unit looks dangerous enough and with an out-of-form Bumrah, MI bowlers may have a hard time dealing with RR batters. 

Similar to RR's batting, the bowling department also showed up as they halted SRH to 149/7 in 20 overs. Genius spinner Yuzvendra Chahal marked his entrance to the Rajasthan franchise as he picked up 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs. Kiwi pacer Trent Boult picked up 2 wickets while Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna was the most impressive, dismissing Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi inside the powerplay and finishing with a figure of 4-1-16-2.
