Mumbai Indians were handed an 8-wicket defeat in their first game of the season. However, the 5-time champions would be eager to return to Wankhede, to take on their favourite opponents. In the first game, Tilak Varma was the only MI batter who stood up as she smacked an unbeaten 84 runs off just 46 balls to take MI to a decent score after Rohit Sharma (1), Ishan Kishan (10), Cameron Green (5) and Suryakumar Yadav (15) failed to fire.

The bowling was pretty disappointing. Piyush Chawla was their most economical bowler with just 26 runs conceded in 4 overs, while Jofra Archer conceded 33 runs in 4 overs. None of the other bowlers were able to maintain an economic rate of below 10. Arshad Khan and Cameron Green picked up 1 wicket each and were the sole wicket-takers.

Chennai Super Kings on the other hand registered a win against Lucknow after conceding a defeat in the opening fixture. Batting first, Chennai top order fired heavily as the 4-time champions posted 217 runs in 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the top scorer with his 57 runs off 31 balls, followed by his opening partner Devon Conway (47 runs off 29 balls). Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu contributed with 27 runs each of 16 and 14 balls respectively.

Spinner Moeen Ali was the top bowler for CSK as he grabbed 4 wickets for just 26 runs in his 4 overs. Tushar Deshpande grabbed 2 wickets while Mitchell Santner managed 1 wicket.
