A complete team performance helped Punjab Kings defeat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in the 23rd match of the IPL 2022 played at Pune's MCA Stadium. This is MI's fifth consecutive loss and the five-time IPL champions are still winless this season.
Chasing 199, Mumbai lost both openers - Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan - inside the powerplay and could only make 42 runs in the first six overs. While Rohit scored 28 in 17, Ishan made only three in six balls.
However, young guns Dewald Brevis and Tilak Verma counter-attacked, adding 84 runs in 41 balls for the third wicket to keep MI in the run chase. Brevis smacked 49 in 25 balls, including scoring 29 runs in one Rahul Chahar over. Tilak made 36 in 20 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes.
