Multan Sultans had a thrilling start to their campaign in PSL 8, losing the first match of the season by just 1 run against Lahore Qalandars. Chasing 176 runs to win, the top order showed up with runs but the middle order failed to step up, resulting in a defeat by the narrowest of margins. Captain Mohammad Rizwan was the top scorer with 75 runs off 50 balls with 8 fours & a six. Shan Masood (35), David Miller (25) and Kieron Pollard (20) contributed handsomely but failed to leave a big mark. 

Usama Mir was impressive with the ball in hand and picked up 2 wickets for just 25 runs in his 4 overs against Lahore. Afghan bowler Ihsanullah also picked up 2 wickets (37 runs in 4 overs). Akeal Hosein and Shahnawaz Dahani managed 1 wicket each to their name. 

Quetta Gladiators on the other hand will be playing their first match of the season. Jason Roy was the top scorer for Quetta in PSL 2022, scoring 303 runs at an average of 50 while striking at 170. Will Smeed also scored 240 runs at a strike rate of 137 while averaging 40. The likes of Umar Akmal, Martin Guptill, Iftikhar Ahmed and Wanindu Hasaranga will further strengthen the batting under the leadership of Sarfaraz Khan. 

The bowling attack will be led by Pakistan's young pace gun Naseem Shah. Naseem grabbed 14 wickets in PSL 2022 at a strike rate and average of 21 and 8.02 respectively. Mohammad Hasnain, Umaid Ashif, Odean Smith and Naveen ul Haq would comprise the rest of the fast bowling attack, while Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz will lead the spin department. Wanindu Hasaranga, Iftikhar Ahmed, Qais Ahmed and Saud Shakeel will also shoulder the spin department of the Gladatiors.
