Last year's runners-up Multan Sultans are set to host defending champions Lahore Qalandars in the 1st match of Pakistan Super League 2023.

MUL vs LAH: Match Preview:

Multan Sultans' skipper Mohammed Rizwan was in terrific form in PSL 7, scoring 546 runs in 11 innings and winning the 'Player of the Tournament' award. Multan's batting will be further strengthened by Shan Masood and Khushdil Shah, along with overseas players David Miller, Rilee Rossouw and Tim David. 

West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein is the top wicket-taker in T20s amongst Multan Sultans' bowlers with 44 wickets and will be leading the spin group. Adil Rashid will also strengthen the team with his leg break along with 19-year-old Afghan Izharulhaq Naveed. The fast bowling strength of Multan Sultans also looks formidable with the likes of Shahnawaz Dahani, Wayne Parnell and Josh Little along with Kieron Pollard. 

For Lahore Qalandars, Fakhar Zaman was the top scorer in last season with 592 runs at an average of 45.5 while striking at 153.4. Harry Brook is also a batting force in the Qalandars. However, the rest of the batting looks a bit weak in terms of experience. Abdullah Shafique and Kamran Ghulam along with Liam Dawson and David Wiese haven't had very impressive numbers batting-wise so far, apart from Wiese's strike rate of 184.4. 

The bowling on the other hand will be led by ace Pakistan pacer and Lahore's captain Shaheen Afridi, who has 53 wickets in PSL including 20 wickets in PSL 7, where he also led the team to a title win. Haris Rauf will also strengthen the bowling even more, having 36 wickets to his name in PSL. Dilbar Hussain, Zaman Khan and Ahmed Daniyal are the other pacers in the team, along with David Wiese and Hussain Talat. Ace T20 bowler Rashid Khan will lead the spin department of the defending champions along with Jalat Khan.

• Multan Sultans – Tim David will be available to play in the PSL 8 from March 3rd. Wayne Parnell's participation is doubtful given he just came out of a groin injury to lead his team in the SA20 finals which were held a day before the opening PSL 8 fixture. 
• Lahore Qalandars – Rashid Khan and Jordan Cox aren't available for this match due to UAE vs AFG T20Is and Eng lions vs SL ODIs respectively. Sam Billings, who is a partial replacement for Rashid Khan, may also miss the match due to the recent conclusion of ILT20.
