Irrespective of the format, when a batter hits a six, it's always a treat to watch, especially when the hit is clean and well-timed, it makes up for a great exhibition. Some batters manage to hit a six and some add so much power to the shot that the commentators demand eight runs off that shot. 

Here let's take a look at the top five longest sixes hit in the history of cricket: 

5) Simon O'Donnell 122 m Six 

Former Australian cricketer Simon O'Donnell once hit 122 meters six at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 1993 during a first-class game between Victoria and New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield Tournament. While playing for Victoria, O'Donnell smacked a six that went straight to the third floor of the great southern stand of MCG. 

4) Albie Morkel 125 m Six 

Former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel once smacked a 125-meter six while playing the Indian Premier League (IPL). In 2008, Morkel, while playing for Chennai Super Kings, smashed a six over deep mid-wicket off Deccan Chargers' bowler Pragyan Ojha's delivery. 

3) Martin Guptill 127 m Six 

The man who has hit the most sixes in the T20I cricket - Martin Guptil also has his name on the list of longest sixes. The New Zealand opener, in 2012, smashed a 127 meter six against South Africa in Wellington. Lanwobo Tsotsobe was at the receiving as Guptill plucked him over midwicket for a massive six. 

2) Aiden Blizzard 130 m Six 

One of the most powerful hitters of his time, Aiden Blizzard has a record of hitting a 130 meter six which dates to 2008 against Western Australia during a domestic game being played at the WACA. 

1) Brett Lee 135 m Six 

A specialist fast bowler, Brett Lee was always known for his batting and hitting abilities that could create an impact for the team down the order. Lee, in 2005, once smashed a 130-135 meter six against West Indies' Darren Powell during a test match being played at the Gabba. The ball went so long that it landed in the practice nets of the Gabba which are situated near the parking area of the stadium.
