BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia: In a major setback for grassroots cricket in the Northeast, young men cricketers from Arunachal Pradesh will miss out on the ongoing Vinoo Mankad Trophy, as the state association has failed to field a team due to an ongoing legal battle bringing cricket in the state to a complete standstill.
Arunachal Pradesh was scheduled to open its campaign against Sikkim in the Plate Group of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy at the KIIT Cricket Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. But an internal power struggle and subsequent court stay order mean the team will forfeit the fixture, with the opposition likely to be awarded full points as per the BCCI’s playing conditions.
The impasse stems from a factional feud within the Arunachal Cricket Association (ACA), where six district bodies - Lower Siang, Upper Subansiri, Kamle, Tawang, West Siang, and Papum Pare - alleged widespread violations of rules during the state executive elections and demanded fresh polls.
