Karachi Kings will clash against Islamabad United in the 4th match of the Pakistan Super League 2023. 

KAR vs ISL: Match Preview:

Karachi Kings faced a narrow 2-run defeat in their first match of PSL 8 against Peshawar Zalmi (led by their former captain Babar Azam). Apart from Matthew Wade (23 runs off 15 balls), the next three batters failed to get a start and were dismissed cheaply as Karachi Kings were reduced to 46/4. However, captain Imad Wasim and Shoaib Malik showed great form as the two added over 100 runs for the 5th wicket. Ultimately, Maliks dismissal in the pen ultimate over resulted in a close defeat. 

In the bowling department, there were no standout performers and as many as 4 bowlers managed 1 wicket each – Mir Hamza, Andrew Tye, Imran Tahir and Ben Cutting. However, all of them (except Hamza) were expensive with their economy rate reading 8 and above, up to 14. Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir had a forgetful day with the ball as both of them conceded 42 runs in 3 and 4 overs respectively, along with Tahir conceding 40 runs in 4 overs. 

Islamabad United on the other hand will be playing their first match in this season of PSL. Islamabad will be missing their big names like Alex Hales, Moeen Ali & Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the first few matches. Alex Hales was their top scorer in the last season with 355 runs at a strike rate of 147 while averaging 44. Captain Shadab Khan was also an active scorer for the team with 268 runs at a strike rate of 162, averaging 33. Paul Stirling, Colin Munro and Asif Ali would be expected to step up with the bat in the absence of explosive Hales, along with South African batter Rassie van der Dussen.

Captain Shadab Khan also has the most wickets in the bowling department and will lead the spin unit while Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali is expected to shoulder the pace unit. Youngster Abrar Ahmed, who dazzled England in a home Test series, is also present in the team to play the wicket-taker role in the middle overs. Young Zeeshan Zameer and experience Rumman Raaes will be required to step up in the fast bowling department to assist Hasan Ali.
