Jemimah, Ghosh Power India To Thrilling Win Against Pakistan In Women's T20 World Cup Clash

Jemimah scored an unbeaten 53 runs off 38 balls (4x8) while Richa Ghosh remained not out on 31 runs in 20 balls

INDW vs PAKW: India made a thrilling start to their T20 World Cup 2023 campaign as they defeated Pakistan in a Group B match. Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh displayed excellent batting prowess to take India to a fantastic 7-wicket win against rivals Pakistan. 

Chasing 150 runs to win, openers looked stable at the start as Yastika Bhatia and Shafali Verma added 38 runs for the first wicket. Bhatia was dismissed for 17 runs in the 6th over. Shafali Verma scored 33 runs in 25 balls with 4 fours and was dismissed in the 10th over.

India were dealt a huge blow as captain Harmanpreet Kaur (16) was dismissed in the 14th over against Nashra Sandhu. However, Jemimah Rodrigues, who was set at the crease, batting on 33*(30), took charge with Richa Ghosh. With 40 runs needed off the last 4 overs, Ghosh and Rodrigues smacked a boundary each in the 17th over by Nida Dar. 

Richa Ghosh took on Aiman Anwar in the next over, smacking 3 consecutive fours and bringing the equation down to 14 runs off last two overs. Rodrigues completed her fifty in the 19th over and smashed 3 fours against Fatima Sana to finish the match with an over remaining. Jemimah scored an unbeaten 53 runs off 38 balls (4x8) while Richa Ghosh remained not out on 31 runs in 20 balls as these two etched an unbroken partnership of 53 runs for the 4th wicket.

Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof and lower-order batter Ayesha Naseem played excellent knocks, powering their team to 149/4 in 20 overs. India needs 150 runs off 20 overs to win their opening fixture in this World Cup. After Javeria Khan (8) was dismissed on a team total of 10 runs in the 2nd over, Bisam Maroof got along with Muneeba Ali, adding 32 runs for the 2nd wicket. 

Muneeba Ali and Nida Dar (0) were dismissed quickly as Pakistan's score read 43/3. Sidra Ameen (11) was dismissed shortly afterwards as Pakistan were rigged down to 68/4. 

From thereon, Bismah and Ayesha Naseem played a gem of an inning as these two etched an unbroken partnership of 81 runs for the 5th wicket. Bismah scored an unbeaten 68 runs in 55 balls with 7 fours while Ayesha Naseem went not out on 43 runs in 25 balls with 2 fours & 2 sixes. 

For India, Radha Yadav was the top wicket-taker with 2 wickets to her name while Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar managed 1 wicket each. 

Earlier, Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof won the toss & opted to bat first against India in the 4th match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2023. This match is being played at Newlands, Cape Town.

For Pakistan, Nashra Sandhu picked up 2 wickets while Sadia Iqbal managed 1 wicket.
