IPL 2023: All Retentions, Trades, Released Players Updates

With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 concluded, the IPL franchises have gotten into action to tweak the fixes in their squads for the next IPL season.

With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 concluded, the IPL franchises have gotten into action to tweak the fixes in their squads for the next IPL season. A mini-auction is to be held in December 2022, and the franchises have to provide a list of retained players latest by November 15th. The 10 franchises have already released a number of players, thereby adding more amount to their remaining purses. 

The IPL 2023 mini-auction will be held in Kochi in December 2023. To make sure all squads have adequate fireworks and team combinations, the purse amount has been increased to 95 from 90 crores, an extra Rs 5 crore addition to each team's purse.

Despite an additional amount in their purse, teams are stopping at nothing to create the best teams – and are hence actively trading players from other teams in the transfer window ahead of the Retention Day deadline. Punjab Kings have the biggest purse going into the auctions, with 3.45 crores remaining from the last IPL auction and the added 5 crores, taking the total remaining amount to 8.45 crores.

Kolkata Knight Riders, the 2-time IPL champions are trying to make the best out of the transfer window as they have managed to gain the services of New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson and explosive Afghan wicket-keeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz from Gujarat Titans, who won the IPL 2022 trophy. 


Jason Behrendorff back at Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians decided to trade in Australian pacer Jason Behrendorff from Royal Challengers Bangalore to strengthen their bowling attack amidst a team rigged with injuries. The fitness of England pacer Jofra Archer and Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is a cause of concern for the 5-time IPL champions ahead of the next season. According to reports, it has come to light that Mumbai Indians have released Fabian Allen and Tymal Mills along with uncapped Indian players Mayank Markande and Hrithik Shokin.


Mayank Agarwal is to be released by Punjab Kings

According to the report, Punjab Kings are all set to release their former captain Mayank Agarwal ahead of the IPL 2023 min auction. Punjab bought Mayank for 14 crores and releasing him would give a huge boost to their purse. Apart from Mayank, Punjab are also believed to release Shahrukh Khan (9 crores) and Odean Smith (6 crores) ahead of the 2023 mini-auction.


KKR Acquire Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals

Kolkata Knight Riders have been the most active team in the transfer window ahead of the mini-auction, and have acquired all-rounder Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals in an all-cash deal. Thakur was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs. 10.75 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction. However, the all-rounder registered his worse bowling figures in an IPL season ever since he became a regular in 2017.
