Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings, 8th Match IPL 2021

Chasing a target of just 107, CSK was never in trouble even though it lost Ruturaj Gaikwad inside the powerplay. du Plessis and Ali took things steadily to add 66 runs in 46 balls.

The England all-rounder looked more attacking and scored 46 off 31 balls with the help of seven fours and a six. Du Plessis kept things simple and remained unbeaten on 36 off 33 balls.

Punjab tried to come back in the match as they picked three quick wickets but it was too late in the end as du Plessis and Sam Curran completed the chase with more than four overs to spare.

Earlier, Chahar's career-best IPL figures of 4/13 rattled Punjab's top-order. He made full use of the seam-friendly conditions at the Wankhede as he took his first three wickets inside the powerplay and one right after the restrictions ended as MS Dhoni finished all his four overs in just one spell.

Punjab never fully recovered after that bad start which had them 26/5 at one stage. However, Shahrukh Khan, who was playing his 2nd IPL game, took the responsibility to take his team to a respectable total.

He added 31 runs with Jhye Richardson for the sixth wicket and 30 more with Murugan Ashwin for the seventh as Punjab managed to reach the triple-figure mark.

Shahrukh Khan got out in the last over after scoring a crucial 47 as Punjab Kings' total read 106/8.

Ravindra Jadeja in the field was one of the highlights of CSK's innings after Chahar's deadly spell. Jadeja not only kept the gridlock with his economical bowling of four overs for 19 runs but also removed KL Rahul with a direct hit followed by a diving catch to get rid of Chris Gayle.
