India Down England By 49 Runs In 2nd T20I; Clinch T20 Series

India are now 2-0 ahead with the third & final T20I to be played against England in the 3-match T20I series.

Team India continued their excellent run in the T20I series against England after losing the final test and thrashed the hosts by 49 runs in the 2nd T20I. With this win, India have clinched the 3-match T20I series 2-0 with the 3rd T20I to be played on Sunday (July 10th).

Defending a total of 170, India were off to a great start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Jason Roy on the very first delivery of the innings. Bhuvneshwar went on to dismiss England skipper Jos Buttler (4) inside the powerplay and Jasprit Bumrah, who was brought in for Arshdeep Singh in this match, bowled Liam Livingstone (15) with a peach in the 5th over.

For England, Moeen Ali was the top scorer with 35 runs off 21 with 3 fours & 2 sixes while David Willey scored an unbeaten 33 runs in 22 balls including 3 fours & 2 sixes, but it was too late for the hosts till then.

For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up 3 wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed 2 wickets each. Hardik Pandya also managed a wicket.

From thereon, team India grabbed wickets at regular intervals without leaking many runs. The required run rate kept on increasing for the hosts as the England team were halted to 121 in 17 overs, losing the match by  49 runs. England were thrashed by 50 runs in the first T20I. 

In the first innings, England bowlers, particularly Richard Gleeson and Chris Jordan bowled brilliantly as Ravindra Jadeja helped team India to a fightable total of 170/8 in 20 overs.

India were off to a brilliant start as they scored 61 runs in the powerplay for just 1 wicket. Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring 31 runs off 20 balls with 3 fours & 2 sixes in the 5th over by debutant Richard Gleeson.

In the 7th over, Gleeson picked up consecutive wickets on the first two balls, dismissing Virat Kohli (1) and opener Rishabh Pant (31). Team India then lost regular wickets and Ravindra Jadeja, batting at #6 was the only one who took on the English bowlers, scoring an unbeaten 46 runs off 29 balls with 5 fours. 

Team India kept up the run rate despite losing wickets and even scored 55 runs in the last 5 overs. For England, Chris Jordan picked up 4 wickets while debutant Richard Gleeson picked up 3 wickets of the top three Indian batters.

Earlier, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss & opted to field first against India in the 2nd T20I. This match was played at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
