Australian wicketkeeper-batter Tim Paine, who stepped down from Test captaincy on Friday less than three weeks before the Ashes following a sexting scandal, has sought forgiveness from his team-mates and fans, saying he remains a committed member of the cricket team and is looking forward "with anticipation to what is a huge Ashes tour".
The 36-year-old also said he was sorry for any damage the scandal would have done to the reputation of the game, adding that he was quitting as he did not want the scandal "to become an unwelcome disruption to the team" ahead of such a crucial series beginning on December 8 at the Gabba.
