Fifties From Top Order Help Team India To 308/7 In 1st ODI Against West Indies

Skipper Shikhar Dhawan was the highest scorer for team India with 97 runs off 99 balls in the 1st ODI against West Indies.

In the absence of regular names, the Indian top order fired with fifties while West Indies bowlers made a comeback in the latter half as India managed to post 308/7 in 50 overs. 

Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill scored fifties as they etched a partnership of 119 runs for the first wicket in 17.3 overs. Gill was unluckily dismissed via Nicholas Pooran's direct hit after scoring 64 runs in 53 balls with 6 fours & 2 sixes.

Captain Shikhar Dhawan carried on as he etched a partnership of 94 runs in 97 balls with Shreyas Iyer for the second wicket. Dhawan was dismissed on 97, just 3 runs shy of his first ODI century since 2019. Shamarh Brooks held on to an excellent catch to deny the Indian skipper of the ton.

Shreyas Iyer was also dismissed shortly afterwards, courtesy of yet another excellent catch, this time by West Indian skipper Nicholas Pooran after scoring 54 runs in 57 balls with 5 fours & 2 sixes. 

For West Indies, Gudakesh Mottie & Alzarri Joseph picked up 2 wickets each while Romario Shepherd and Akeal Hosein managed 1 wicket each.

Earlier, West Indies won the toss & opted to field first against India in the first ODI. This match is being played at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
