Shortly after making a comeback into professional cricket, Jofra Archer's elbow injury has re-emerged weeks before England plays New Zealand in two test match series. 

Archer had recently undergone elbow surgery for which he missed the ODI series against India and IPL 2021. After recovering, Archer made his comeback as he turned up to play for Sussex for the county match against Kent. 

He bowled in the first innings of the match and even took two wickets to announce his comeback. However, Archer complained of a sore elbow after bowling five overs in the second innings. 

“If you saw today he’s not going to bowl tomorrow. You’ll have to ask the ECB,” Sussex head coach Ian Salisbury told reporters on Saturday.

“He’s still willing to be out there because he wants Sussex to win. They (the ECB) had to give him permission to play this game. He’s not our player so they had to give permission,” he added.

Archer had suffered a cut to his hand while cleaning at his home in January shortly before flying to India to prepare for the Test series.

The ECB's medical team managed the injury throughout the tour due to which he even missed two of the four test matches. A fragment of glass was removed during the operation to his middle finger on his right hand in March.

After New Zealand, England will be hosting India for five test matches in August and September.
