New Zealand's comprehensive eight-wicket win has given a huge dent to India's chances in the T20 World Cup on Sunday night in Dubai.

Chasing a total of just 111, Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell gave a good start as New Zealand scored 44 in the powerplay. Guptill scored 20 from 17 before getting out to Jasprit Bumrah, the only Indian bowler who looked threatening.

Mitchell continued and had good support from Kane Williamson from the other end. Mitchell attacked and scored 49 from 35 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes.

New Zealand batting never looked in trouble as they closed the game in the 15th over and registered their first win of the Super 12 stage.

Earlier, India was asked to bat first and once again had a poor start. Ishan Kishan got out scoring just four while KL Rahul scored 18 from 16 as India scored 35 inside the powerplay and lost two wickets.

Rohit Sharma, who came in at number three, hit one six and a four for his 14 before getting caught at the boundary. Virat Kohli, too, had a bizarre night as he struggled his for nine runs in 17 balls.

Rishabh Pant couldn't time the ball well and made 12 off 19. Hardik Pandya had to play in a conservative manner and scored 23 off 24 balls. Ravindra Jadeja gave a good finish with his 26 from 19 balls but it just wasn't enough for India.

For New Zealand, Trent Boult picked three wickets, Ish Sodhi took two while Tim Southee and Adam Milne got one each.
