Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary: The Government of Bihar has felicitated cricketer Ishan Kishan with a cash prize of Rs 1 crore for his crucial role in Team India’s triumph at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

Taking a break from his IPL commitments, the Patna-born cricketer arrived in the state capital and met Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by members of Kishan’s family as well.

Congratulating him, the Chief Minister described Ishan as the “Son of Patna” and encouraged him to continue bringing pride to Bihar through his performances on the global stage.

“Ishan Kishan—a brilliant batsman, a ‘Son of Bihar,’ and a member of the victorious Indian team at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup—has been honoured with Rs 1 crore for his significant contribution. I extend my heartfelt best wishes for his successful cricketing career,” said Samrat Choudhary.

Ishan Kishan emerged as one of India’s standout performers in the tournament.

He played 9 matches (9 innings) and scored 317 runs at an average of 35.22 and a strike rate of 193. He was ranked the 4th-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

His best knock came against Pakistan, where he scored a brilliant 77 runs.

In the final against New Zealand, he played a crucial innings of 54 runs, smashing 4 fours and 4 sixes, helping India post a formidable total of 250.

Born in Patna, Ishan Kishan’s journey to international cricket has been anything but easy.

Due to issues surrounding the Bihar Cricket Association, he moved to Jharkhand to pursue his career.

He rose to prominence as captain of India’s squad in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup.

His domestic career includes memorable performances, notably a historic 273-run innings in the Ranji Trophy.

He later made a mark in the Indian Premier League with standout seasons in 2020, 2022, and 2025.
