BCCI postpones verdict on Ajit Chandila and Hiken Shah

Mumbai, December 24 - The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the time given to tainted cricketers Ajit Chandila and Hiken Shah to reply to charges of corruption and spot-fixing against them.

The BCCI's disciplinary committee, which consists of president Shashank Manohar, Niranjan Shah and Jyotiraditya Scindia, met at the Cricket Centre here on Thursday as Chandila and Shah appeared in person to put forward their response to the charges.

The disciplinary committee, which is headed by Manohar, have given the duo time till January 4 to file a written response to the charges against them. The committee also decided to issue a notice to former Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf to respond to the charges against him.

The disciplinary committee will now meet on January 5 to announce their decision.

Chandila, who used to play for the Rajasthan Royals, was arrested by the police for spot-fixing during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in 2013 along with his then teammates S. Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan.

Sreesanth and Chavan were later handed life bans by the BCCI while Chandila has been suspended from the game for the last couple of years.

Shah on the other hand, is accused of breaching the BCCI's anti-corruption code ahead of this year's IPL.

The BCCI is yet to decide on the quantum of punishment to be awarded to Chandila and Shah.
