BCCI Looking For March 2023 As Window For Inaugural Women's IPL

BCCI has been hosting a three-team exhibition tournament - The women's T20 Challenge since 2018.

The inaugural season of the women's Indian Premier League is likely to be played in March 2023 as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently in discussion with other boards for participation. 

While there is no official update regarding the commencement of the tournament but the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has, on several occasions, made his intentions clear regarding the WIPL happening in 2023 in the recent past. 

BCCI recently hosted the exhibition three-team series - Women's T20 Challenge squeezed between the playoffs of the men's IPL. Despite that, the WT20 Challenge got a decent turnout and viewership, marking some positive responses and interest from the viewers. 

According to a report in New Indian Express, the BCCI had discussions with stakeholders and looking for March as the ideal window. They are likely to ask the International Cricket Council (ICC) to create a separate window for its new league in that month. 

One of the major reasons why March is ideal is because of the packed schedule from July to November where the Caribbean Premier League, The Hundred, and Women's Big Bash League are played followed by an international calendar of Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa from December to February. 

Another thing that is being reported is that the WIPL will be a six-team tournament and the BCCI has already got some interest from at least two already established IPL franchises.
