March 30 (CRICKETNMORE) - An important eighth-wicket partnership of 95 runs between Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood has denied the Black Caps a firm grip on the second test match against England at Christchurch on Friday.

The tourists were 164-7 shortly after tea to finish day one on 290-8. Bairstow will resume on 97 on Saturday morning. The other important contribution came fromMark Wood who scored 52.
