In the 2nd Quarter Final match of the Ranji Trophy 2022, Mumbai defeated Uttarakhand by a margin of 725 runs to march into the Semi-Finals of the tournament. Chasing a target of 795 runs, Uttarakhand got bowled out for 69 in less than 28 overs on the last day of the game.

The margin of 725 runs is the biggest ever in first-class cricket which is now registered by Mumbai. They have now broken the 92-year-old record set by New South Wales when they defeated Queensland in Sheffield Shield 1929-30.

After opting to bat first, Mumbai posted 647/8D in the first inning - courtesy of debutant Suved Parkar, who scored 252 runs in 447 balls - the second-highest score by a Mumbai batter on first-class debut - he fell just eight short of his coach Amol Muzumdar's record - and the only way Uttarakhand found to get rid of him was via run out. Apart from Suved, Sarfaraz Khan continued his golden run in the Ranji Trophy as he scored 153 as well.

In reply, Uttarakhand got bundled out for 114 as Mumbai's Shams Mulani picked five wickets. Mumbai didn't ask Uttarakhand to follow on and decided to bat once again and once again declared after posting 261/3.

During that, captain Prithvi Shaw scored 72 off 80, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 103, and Aditya Tare made 57 as Mumbai gave Uttarakhand a mammoth target of 795 runs. Another combined bowling effort against an out of sorts looking Uttarakhand made things easy for Mumbai to clinch the world record and also storm into the Semi-Finals in style.
