Vijay Hazare Trophy: India chief selector Ajit Agarkar said the decision to keep Shubman Gill as the vice-captain for the upcoming ODIs against England and the Champions Trophy was done keeping in mind that they are on lookout for people with some leadership skills.
Gill, 25, has amassed 2328 runs in 47 ODIs at an average of 58.20, including six centuries and 13 fifties. “Shubman was vice captain in Sri Lanka anyway, I wouldn't read too much into it. A lot of the feedback comes from the dressing room. You also want to keep your options open.”
“One of the challenges is that not many are leading their state teams nowadays … but you are always on the lookout for anyone who has got some leadership qualities,” said Agarkar in the press conference after announcing the squad.
