On Day 2, India were bowled out for 345 in the 2nd session. Test debutant Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 105 runs. For New Zealand, Tim Southee picked up his 13th five-wicket haul in Tests. In the following sessions, Kiwi openers Tom Latham and Will Young stuck at the crease made the Indian bowlers toil hard. They added 129 runs for the opening wicket before the stumps were called. 

New Zealand currently trail India by 216 runs.
