Fifth Indian Open Jumps Competition: Rising female long jumper Mubassina Mohammed won the long jump gold at the Fifth Indian Open Jumps Competition held at the Anju Bobby George Foundation Campus in Bengaluru on Sunday.

On her way to winning gold with a jump of 6.38m, the 20-year-old representing the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation also improved her personal best of 6.36m.

Mubassina was steady in her performance on Sunday. She had a series of 6.18m, 6.24m, 6.29m, 5.81m, 6.15m, and 6.38m.

Bhavani Yadav (Railway) won silver with a distance of 6.27m. Kusuma Ravada (Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation) won bronze with a distance of 6.08m.

Earlier on the first day of the competition, Abdulla Aboobacker and Praveen Chithravel battled for the gold medal in the men’s triple jump event on Saturday.

But Aboobacker had the upper hand in an exciting contest. The international jumper representing the Air Force got his rhythm right in his third attempt to take home the gold medal with a distance of 16.83m. His opening jump was 16.05m, and he recorded a jump of 16.57m in his second attempt. However, he didn’t attempt the last three jumps.

Praveen Chithravel settled for silver with a jump of 16.78m in the season-opening competition.
