Harare, Jan 7 (IANS) Zimbabwe opening batsman Vusi Sibanda was Wednesday left out of the country's 15-member cricket World Cup squad.

Fellow batsman Hamilton Masakadza will make his first appearance at the tournament after he was overlooked for previous editions, reports Xinhua.

Coach Dave Whatmore expressed satisfaction with the pool of players picked.

"I am pleased with the squad that has been put together for the World Cup," said Whatmore.

"I think with this group of players we can go out there and compete with the top teams. With an injection of some confidence, these are the players we think can get some results in those conditions."

Experienced all-rounder Stuart Matsikenyeri makes a return to international cricket after a long absence.

All-rounder Sean Williams, who was left out of the squad that toured Bangladesh, also makes a return while there is no place for Malcolm Waller.

Zimbabwe are placed in Pool B together with South Africa, India, Pakistan, West Indies, Ireland and United Arab Emirates.
