Melbourne, March 29 (IANS) Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar presented the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards at the closing ceremony of the 2015 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) here on Sunday.

Australia defeated trans-Tasman rivals and co-hosts New Zealand by seven wickets to clinch their fifth World Cup trophy.

All-rounder James Faulkner was named the Player of the Match for his figures of 9-1-36-3. The pacer took the key wickets of Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott and Corey Anderson.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc etched his name in the record books as he was named Player of the Tournament for taking the most wickets, 22.

Tendulkar, who was member of the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian team, is the brand ambassador of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) showpiece event.
