6th August (CRICKETNMORE) - Sri Lanka crushed Australia by 229 runs in the Second test in Galle to register historic series win on Saturday. Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera bagged six wickets in the second innings to bowl Australia for just 183 runs. He ended with 6-70 and match figures of 10-99.

It was a humiliating loss for the No1-ranked Australia, who were heavy favourites to win the series before the start but were outclassed by a relatively young and inexperienced Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the first Test at Pallekele by 106 runs.

With a victory target of 413, Australia were bundled out for 183 after lunch as Sri Lanka. The home team took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Sri Lanka have beaten Australia in a Test series for the first time in 17 years. The last time they won the series in 1999.
