2003 Cricket World Cup is often remembered as the cup of controversies.

In one of the biggest controversies of 2003 ICC cricket world cup, Australian legendry leg spinner and Man of the final in 1999 world cup, Shane Warne was ruled out from the tournament in South Africa after a drug test revealed the presence of a banned diuretic.

It was a big blow for the defending champions as the incident happened a day before the team's opening game against Pakistan. The spinner had been ruled out after testing positive. Warne pleaded his innocence and claimed he had only taken a pill to help reduce his weight on the advice of his mother.

"I'm shocked because I have not taken performance enhancing drugs.I did take a fluid tablet before my comeback game in Sydney. The tablet is supposed to dehydrate you and rid your body of any excess fluid. I didn't know it contained any banned substance", Shane warne said in an interview.

He received a 12-month ban subsequently. However, it dosen't affected the team's performance as Australia won their third World Cup title.
