Mumbai, Sep 13 (IANS) West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been appointed Mumbai Indians captain for the forthcoming Champions League Twenty20, starting Sep 13, in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who recently sustained a fractured middle finger during India's tour of England.

Pollard has been with the Indians from the third season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also led the Barbados Tridents to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title recently.

"It is very unfortunate that Rohit will be unable to lead the team and I take this opportunity to wish him a fast comeback. I truly understand that it is a huge honour and privilege to captain the vibrant Mumbai Indians side and thank the team management for bestowing their faith in me," said the Trinidad and Tobago native.

Chief mentor of Mumbai Indians, Anil Kumble said: "We will definitely feel Rohit's absence in the team and wish him well. I am confident that Kieron with his varied experience and impressive track record will rise to the occasion and align the Mumbai Indians for a competitive performance."
