March 4 (CRICKETNMORE) - Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon career best figures of 8/50 helped his team to take an edge on the first day of the second test against India in Bengaluru on Saturday. India were bundled out for 189 in the first innings.

Not only it was Lyon career best performance, he also surpassed Brett Lee's record of most wickets against India. Lee, who was the record holder for Australia had 53 wickets in 12 matches. The New South Wales bowler now has 58 wickets in the same number of matches.

Lyon's 8-50 is also the sixth best Test figures by an Australian ever and second best by an spinner. Only Arthur Mailey's 9 for 121 against England in Ashes 1920-21 are better among Australia spinners.

It was also the best figure by any visiting bowler in India. Lyon beats the previous best figures of 8/64 by South African fast bowler Lance Klulsener (1996-97) which Lyon has eclipsed. Lyon is the fourth foreign bowler to take an eight-wicket haul in India; Sikandar Bakht and Jason Kreza being the other two. Overall Lyon's haul is the fourth-best against India.
