Melbourne, 28th Dec (CRICKETNMORE): Record 262-run stand between Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane helped India in a stunning fightback to end day three at 462 for eight. India were still trailing by 68 runs in the first innings with two wickets in hand at stumps on Day 3.

Kohli (169) cracked his third century of the series and 9th of the career. His knock included 18 boundaries whereas Rahane (147) stroked his first century on the Australian soil which came off 171 balls, studded with 21 hits to the fence. The day ended as Kohli departed in the last over of the day for 169, Mohammed Shami is at th crease batting on nine. 

However, five late wickets brought the contest back in balance . With still two days left, match can turn in anyone's favour. Harris picked up 4/108 and Lyoon 2/108 for Australia.

Earlier, India resumed the day at 108 for one in reply to Australia’s 530 and were in a spot of bother losing both overnight batsman Cheteshwar Pujara (25) and Murali Vijay (68) within the first hour of play.
