This was Kohli's first ton in South Africa. In doing so, he equalled Sourav Ganguly's record of most ODI hundreds as Indian captain. Both now have 11 centuries. Kohli reached the milestone in 41 innings as compared to Ganguly's 142 innings.

Only two players now have more centuries as ODI captain than Kohli (11). Ricky Ponting (Australia) has 22 and AB de Villiers (South Africa) has 13.

Virat Kohli also becomes the third player after Sachin Tendulkar (India) and Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) to score ODI centuries in nine countries (first 10 full members). Kohli is yet to play an ODI in Pakistan and while Tendulkar missed out in West Indies, Jayasuriya didn't score one in Zimbabwe.
