Aug.19 (CRICKETNMORE) - India's batsmen produced a much-improved performance on day one of the third Test at Trent Bridge, with Virat Kohli scoring 97 to help his side to 307/6.

Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane (81) shared a stand of 159, an Indian record for the fourth wicket at Trent Bridge and India's first century stand in England since Bhuvenshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami at the same venue four years ago.

Earlier, after being put to bat in the opening session, India squandered a 60-run steady opening stand to lose three quick wickets of Shikhar Dhawan (35), Lokesh Rahul (23) and Cheteshwar Pujara (14) within a span of 22 runs, thanks to a disciplined spell from Woakes.
