Cuttack, Nov 2 (IANS) India defeated Sri Lanka by 169 runs in the first of the five One-Day Internationals (ODI) at the Barabati Stadium here Sunday.

After being put in to bat, India had posted a mammoth total of 363/5 in their 50 overs with openers Ajinkya Rahane (111) and Shikhar Dhawan (113) scoring centuries.

Sri Lanka's batting could never sustain a regular partnership, and the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals which led to their being bowled out for 194 in 39.2 overs.

The second cricket ODI will be held at Ahmedabad Nov 6.
