Cheteshwar Pujara was unbeaten on 144 while Ajinkya Rahane was batting on 39 at the other end. Earlier, Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat. Shikhar Dhawan smashed 190 runs off 168 deliveries with 31 boundaries studding his hurricane innings.

Pacer Nuwan Pradeep was the standout performer among the Lankan bowlers with figures of 3/64. The rest of the Lankan bowling suffered some serious hammering and were made to look rather ordinary.
