Earlier, resuming at 128/7 overnight, New Zealand were all out for 204 in their first innings.

Jeetan Patel (47; 47 b, 9x4) was the top scorer.

For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (5/48) and Mohammed Shami (3/70) were the principal wreckers.

India had scored 316 in their first innings.
